Teachers / Choreographers
Kailin Metz - Teacher / Choreographer


Kailin has performed in shows in L.A. and New York such as Shining, A Look Inside, and Beneath the Surface. She trained at the school of Arizona Ballet and Dance Connection, focusing on ballet, modern, and contrmporary. She trained with Lori Johnson, Nadia Zubkov, and Dana Metz and has also spent a summer in Chicago training with Hubbard Street Dance. Kailin continutes to train and perform with Jaci Royal's company Royal Flux, and with Dana Metz. Kailin aspires to grow more in her art and choreography, and to inpoire her students through teaching, as dance is her passion. She taches contemporary, jazz, and technique.

Katie Smith - Ballet Teacher


Kathryn Lenore Guilott Smith (Katie) is a graduate of Brigham Young University with a Bachelors of Art in Dance emphasis in Ballet and Ballroom.  Mrs. Smith studied under the direction of artist Carl Crosby for six years with the Aiken Civic Ballet Company and was named Ballet Mistress.  She has also studied ballet at the University of South Carolina, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Alvin Ailey Summer Workshop and the University of Panamá.  Katie was awarded as the talent, poise, and fitness scholarship winner at the South Carolina Junior Miss Program (Distinguished Young Woman) where she danced the Kitri Variation from Don Quixote. She has danced lead in numerous ballets including The Pied Piper, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella in Cinderella, and partnered with Russian native, Evgueni Tourdiev, in a Pas de Trois from the first act of Swan Lake.  She has also performed as a featured dancer with the Aiken Community Playhouse in Once Upon a Mattress and Footloose.  Katie was a member of the Brigham Young University Folk Dance Ensemble and BYU Ballroom Dance Company. She enjoyed competing in the United States National Dancesport Championships were she placed in the finals for numerous genres.  In summer 2012, she taught dance to underprivileged children and orphans in Panamá City, Panamá through Movement Exchange in partnership with the United States Embassy. She also choreographed for the cultural celebration during the opening of the LDS Phoenix Arizona Temple. In 2015, Katie graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from ASU and currently teaches ballroom and ballet. She is married to Dr. Cameron Smith and they are happily raising their new son, Ryker. 

Mikaylah Harp - Teacher / Choreographer


Dance has become apart of expressing the way Mikaylah Harp lives. Starting at the age of three in     Albuquerque, New Mexico, having a repertoire experience of Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Contemporary, has made her a diverse dancer. At the age of eleven she worked with New Mexico Ballet Company in The Nutcracker, Dracula, and George Balanchine’s Serenade. Until she was 17 she worked with the most top ballet schools in the world, School of American Ballet in New York City and Houston Ballet. as well as being in the New York City Finals for the Youth Of America Grand Prix and growing as a technical dancer, has taught and encouraged her to take her dancing to the next level. Coming back to all styles of dancing such as jazz, jazz funk, hip hop, and contemporary a few years back, makes Mikaylah feel and think completely different as a dancer, and more of an Artist. Mikaylah Harp is now living in Phoenix, Arizona and is a founding member of Phoenix Contemporary Dance Company. She teaches locally around Phoenix and is a teacher here at Gotta Dance. She is also now a new member of TigerStyle! A Performance Company based out of Kasnas City, MO. Mikaylah Harp is still growing as a dancer and a choreographer.

Jen Thomas - Teacher / Choreographer


Jen has been dancing for 39 years, she has trained under Carole Royal, Joe Temaine, Doug Cadwell, Marcea Lane, Jackie Sleight, Mia Micheals, Tyce Diorio, Barry Lather, Paula Abdul, and Nappy Tabs. She has trained and performed in Paris, France for two years, and was a member of Dance International.

She has been teaching and coaching for 27 years, her dance students have gone on to become Professional Ballet Dancers, Phoenix Suns Dancers, Cardinal Cheerleaders, Members of the UofA Pomline and the NAU Dance team, danced for Professional Dance Companies, So You Think You Can Dance dancers, and award winning choreographers.  She has also been an award winning Head Varsity Song/Pom coach for over 9 years, and a Varsity Cheer coach for 3 years.

Jen has received numerous regional and national championship titles, highest scoring dance and pom routines, top overall awards, choreography awards, and multiple judge's choice awards. She was also a nominee for the Dance Industry Awards - Dance of the Year.

Ty Brown

Ty Wesley Brown, "Ty", believes dance should be freedom of expression and feelings. Dance has become a big part and focus of his life since he started at the age of 17. He has performed in shows and multiple events with different groups around Phoenix. He been a part of the Difference between Sinking and Drowning, Alsyum 66', Haus of Fame, EpicDance Company and Celebrity Dance Competition Crew. He trained under the direction of Carrie Matheus (jazz), Matthew Fata (Contemporary) and Jill Hammond (Ballet) at Dance Studio 111. After High School and Final Year at Dance Studio 111, he went on to be part of the Cast of the Disney (Wonder) Cruise Line, and Norwegian (Pearl) Cruise Line.  Ty has been teaching at Gotta Dance Company for three years. He teaches Contemporary, Jazz, Techinque, and Ballet classes. He enjoys dancing and everything it has to offer. He hopes to make dance a positive, exciting and unique experience for all ages and levels. He believes in pushing his kids to their full potential.
"I can take you part of the way but then you have to take yourself the rest of the way there." Ty is still growing and learning as a dancer and choreographer.

Hunter Bean

Hunter is a Gotta Dance alumni. She graduated in 2016, and has been teaching at Gotta Dance since she graduated.

Bailey Richardson

Bailey is a Gotta Dance alumni that graduated in 2017. She has been training at GDC since she was five, danced competitively for 13 years, and competed on the Mountain Ridge varsity pom squad all 4 years of high school, Bailey has been an instructional assistant and has assisted with choreography for the last five years. We are so excited that she has decided to come back and teach for us this year.

Brigid Benson

Brigid is a versatile performer, teacher, and choreographer originally from Phoenix, Arizona. She's trained extensively in jazz, ballet, hip hop, tap, contemporary, and musical theatre since the age of three. She trained under some of the best choreographers in Arizona such as Dana Metz, Jaci Royal, Natasha Louis, and Ricky Maalouf. She's performed in Dana Metz's show A Look Inside and Jaci Royal's show Beneath The Surface in New York City for the A.C.E. Capezio Awards. She's danced for national recording artist Jasmine Hormez. Brigid has been living and professionally dancing in Los Angeles. She's danced on tv shows such as "Rachel's Dratch's Late Night Snack" and Trutv's "Fake Off". Her musical theatre credits include Grease as "Cha Cha", Mary Poppins, Miracle on 34th St., and Peter Pan. She's traveled the world as a dancer for Disney Cruise Line. Brigid has focused much of her time training and working as a technical/contemporary dancer. She's worked with choreographer's like Jason Gorman, Erica Sobol, and Cat Cogliandro. She trained under Erica Sobol in her extensive program "The Gypsy Project". She is currently a principle dancer in Cat Cogliandro's company Catastrophe! Brigid has choreographed for many competition studios and high schools in Arizona and is very passionate about sharing her knowledge with young dancers!

Scarlett Conley

Scarlett Conley began dancing when she was two years old and is trained in jazz, ballet, contemporary, tap, and hip hop, as well as pom. She has been trained by many amazing teachers such as Slavormir Wozniak, David Garcia, Kaitlyn Conley, Dana Metz, Kelsey Metz, and Natasha Louis. Scarlett competed on varsity pom all 4 years of high school and graduated from Horizon High School in 2017. She is now attending Arizona State University.

Makenna Madden

Makenna is a Gotta Dance alumni. She graduated in 2015, and went to dance as an aerialist for Royal Caribbean cruise line. Makenna teaches and choreographs dances for us when she is not performing while cruising the world.

All Boys Hip Hop Crew

Our All Boys Hip Hop Crew staff consists of the dancers and choreographers of All The Kings Men an all male hip hop crew in the valley.

Guest Teachers / Choreographers
Ricky Maalouf - Master Class Instructor / Choreographer


Ricky Maalouf started dancing at age 19 for ASU Hip Hop Coalition and has since gone from member to choreographer. He spent two years on the WNBA Phoenix Mercury Hip Hop Squad as well as other performance groups around the valley. He currently dances with national recording artist Jasmine Hormez, recently opening for Omarion, and danced for the professional dance company Automatic Response who were featured on Americas Best Dance Crew, opening for Fergie and My Chemical Romance, and worked with Dillards, LRG, Kiss FM amongst others. Ricky has won numerous scholarships including Monsters of Hip Hop, Millennium, IDA, Hollywood Vibe, Muse, Scene Interactive and was a Monsters of Hip Hop and Hollywood Vibe finalist. Choreography has been showcased and seen at LA Choreographers Carnival, for hip hop artist Swag, President Obama’s Arizona State Commencement, MTV Sweet Sixteen, in numerous independent music videos, Jr Miss Arizona pageant, UDA, Phoenix Suns and Mercury, high schools and has won many competition awards at a national level. He has a true passion for teaching and believes in a high energy class, making his students work hard while completely enjoying the class experience.

Kaitlyn Conley - Choreographer / Guest Teacher









Kaitlyn Conley has made the exciting transition from award-wining, nationally recognized dancer to professional career. Extensively trained in all styles of dance, Kaitlyn worked as the head demonstrator, with judging and choreography opportunities, for JUMP's 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 tours. Kaitlyn travels throughout the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica teaching master classes, judging and setting award-winning choreography for various dance competitions/conventions, competition dance studios, high school and University dance teams. Kaitlyn was the choreography captain of the 2013 World Jazz Champion and nationally ranked, Arizona State University college dance team for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Kaitlyn choreographed college football and basketball halftime performances; ASU’s jazz routine for UDA College dance team nationals, and is currently the assistant coach for the Arizona State University dance team for the 2016-2017 season. The ASU dance team has performed for numerous organizations including the XLIX Super Bowl pre-game and halftime show, and placed 3rd in the nation at UDA Dance Team Nationals 2016.

Kaitlyn has been trained and influenced by many wonderful and inspirational teachers including Slawomir Woxniak-Master Ballet Academy, Mandy Moore, Dee Caspary, Mia Michaels, Brian Friedman and Natasha Louis. Kaitlyn is excited to share her extensive dance experience with a new generation of eager students.
